Carole supports this 100 year old humane
organization in a number of ways. She is on their Board of Advisors,
contributes the proceeds of one of her books to them, was instrumental in
their support for the Petropolis exhibit, etc.
Working to protect the rights, welfare and
habitats of animals
Carole strongly recommends the IDA, a highly
active non-profit organization working to protect animals worldwide. They
sponsor a variety of programs and initiatives and work to draw media focus
to animal rights and welfare issues. Their award-winning web site
publishes Carole's column, Cats on the Couch, and is loaded
with information and downloadable campaign materials. Their email
newsletter, IDA News, will keep you up to the minute on notable humane
stories.
The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's
Animals, Inc., is working with the City of New York toward the day when no
New York City dog or cat of reasonable health and temperament is killed
merely because he or she does not have a home. The Alliance works with
over twenty non-profit organizations dedicated to No-Kill shelter
strategies and Trap, Neuter & Release programs.
Animal Link is a great resource for all sorts of animal
information and humane and rescue organizations that operate primarily in
Westchester and Putnam counties, New York.
Their adoptable pets search engine is an excellent
feature that is being updated by many humane and rescue groups in
Westchester and Putnam.
KittyKind, Inc.
is a nonprofit, no-kill,
all-volunteer cat rescue and adoption group based at the Petco Store on
Union Square in Manhattan. They have rescued and and found homes for
thousands of cats. They have a continuing flow of adoptable cats and
kittens. There is lots of useful information on their web site.
NYPet-I-Care is a grassroots program of
professional and volunteer 'Friends of the Program' who give willingly
of their time and talents to provide shelter, medical care, training and
socialization to as many abused and abandoned strays that can be
accommodated. Our ultimate goal is to find that exceptional home, where
they can feel safe, loved, and
become a member of their new family.
Pet Finder is devoted to adoption and rescue.
Pet seekers can find adoptable animals locally, regionally, and
nationally. Pictures are available along with details about breed, age,
special needs, etc. Many rescue groups list their adoptable pets there.
You can search by rescue group name to see whether a group you know has
any animals that interest you.
The Way of
Cats is a new blog about, of course, cats. An interesting place
to discuss cats with an emphasis on cat behavior.

PetSitters.org - National
Association of Professional Pet Sitters
The National Association of Professional Pet Sitters is an excellent
non-profit organization that promotes the welfare of animals and secure
in-home pet care performed by professional pet sitters. They operate
certification programs in companion animal care and their web site
offers a searchable national database of their members.
Noah's Wish was one of the early responders to
Hurricane Katrina, rescuing and sheltering displaced animals in New
Orleans. A remarkable organization, Noah's Wish specializes in responding

In Defense of Animals' Project Hope Sanctuary
is in Grenada, Mississippi and so was not too far from the action. Though
the shelter was damaged in the storm, some of the
staff are coping with the damage and caring for animals while others are
coordinating the care and sheltering of rescued animals with other groups

site isn't exclusively cat, there's lots of great cat stuff here. This
leading-edge video entertainment site has hundreds of high quality

sanctuaries and cat refuges - like the Warner Brothers' back lot C.A.T.S.
community; video health reports from the Veterinary News Network; tips

Neighborhood
Cats is a leading national resource in the fields of feral cat colony
management & Trap, Neuter, and Release (TNR) programs. Their award-winning

Holistic Care & Rehabilitation
Mindful Tails provides TTouch and other
services by Guild Certified TTouch Practitioners. TTouch is a holistic
approach to training, rehabilitation and wellness for cats and other
animals which does not use fear or force. Mindful Tails hosts the "Ask
the TTouch Practitioner" booth on Pet Adoption days at Mayor's Alliance
for NYCs Animals, and works closely with a number of animal welfare
organizations. They have used TTouch on cats, dogs, birds, small animals
and others. They give lectures and demos, work with private clients, as

vets; animal friendly lodgings; animal friendly beaches, campgrounds and
other fun places to hang out with your companion animal.

animal-friendly hotels.

by Eddie Lama, author of "The Witness." Today, Oasis Sanctuary is home

ecards, etc.
Care2 is "the global network of organizations
and people that Care2 make a difference." They have helpful networking and
