LET'S CELEBRATE CATS - EVERY DAY

The New Year is such a terrific time to kick-off my newsletter, The Wilbourn Way. Cat lovers always want to know more and more about our cats. Why not?

In this new publication, it's my aim to bring you a continuing flow of the latest and most interesting cat behavior, cat culture, and feline health developments that come to my attention. We'll deal with serious topics, like feral cat rescue and humane issues, too, starting next month and hereafter.

But let's start The Wilbourn Way, and the New Year, on a happy note. Here are a few of the interesting cat attractions that came to my attention over the holidays that celebrate the cat - always a celebration well deserved.

Here's a link to start your New Year off right. It wins our "Most Sincere New Year's Wish" award. Click on http://www.smilesr4u.com/kittyny.htm

I recently received the book, YOGA FOR CATS, "From A Cat's Point Of View", by Christienne Wadsworth and Lynn Chang Franklin. Now you and your cat can do yoga together. Although a cat does yoga naturally, this book is a lot of fun. It's available from Amazon at my link below, and at most book stores.

http://www.amazon.com

For a light-hearted, cat-centered movie, you could see THE FOCKERS, whose main attraction (for me) is mischievous Himalayan cat.

Those of you who live in Chicago, or plan to visit there, should try to catch the cat-head woman sculpture now on view at THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO. The picture appeared in the New York Times last week and it was striking. The museum advises it is "a human-feline effigy figure." The piece

is currently appearing in their exhibition, "Hero, Hawk, and Open Hand: American Indian Art of the Ancient Midwest and South," and it is on loan from the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.

These are just a few of my favorite cat-oriented things this holiday season. The variety of cat-oriented items in our culture continues to grow. Isn't that nice? Happy New Year!

~ Carole

WELCOME TO "THE WILBOURN WAY"

Happy New Year! Welcome to the debut issue of "The Wilbourn Way," Carole Wilbourn's newsletter of cat behavior and mis-behavior, and overall feline health and happiness. A number of you have been anticipating this publication for many months, and we are glad to finally oblige.

This debut issue might have reached you earlier this month, but we've had some start-up technical challenges. The biggest is that AOL thinks we're spammers (totally untrue) and has blocked our mail server. So you AOL members, and other subscribers whose ISPs use AOL's service (like cs.com), may get this issue late.

"The Wilbourn Way" will be published monthly, and will bring you updates on a variety of cat topics.

"The Wilbourn Way" will feature:

* Reports on Carole's work and experiences in cat therapy, animal behaviorism, and her work with humane organizations like the Humane Society of New York, In Defense of Animals, and, Neighborhood Cats, The Feral Cat Resource, among others. Links to these organizations appear on our Resource page. Click on http://thecattherapist.com/links.htm

* Carole's up-coming in-person seminars and personal appearances. When possible, we'll give you advance information about when Carole will be in your area. Maybe you can meet her at an event or arrange an in-home consultation with her that you couldn't afford otherwise. For example, Carole will arrive in Toronto Thursday, January 20th for some media appearances and wind up presenting her seminar, "How to Talk To Your Cat" for the Learning Annex on Saturday, January 22nd. See details below.

* Announcements about cat events around the country.

* Links to cat-related news items, articles, and fun published on thecattherapist.com

* Carole's monthly Cat Happiness Tip!

* Administrivia: Subscribe - Unsubscribe - Privacy Policies

Thanks for subscribing to The Wilbourn Way. If you'd like to comment on our content, point out interesting events or stories we can share with Carole's readers, etc., you can email me at mailto:dick@thecattherapist.com.

Cordially,

~ Dick Jones

CAROLE'S MONTHLY CAT HAPPINESS TIP

Each month, Carole highlights a tip about increasing your, and/or your cat's, happiness.

RIDICULOUS RELAXATION

This month's insight: "Stop and THINK about your cat's really ridiculous pose that made you smile. Then, FEEL your body relax, as it did the first time you beamed down at your cat and let out a sigh. It's a great stress reducer. Apply as needed."
