The Persistent Biter

• Q My cat wakes me up in the morning with a bite.  He can be very persistent, and burrows underneath my comforter to bite me.  If I put him on the floor, he bites on the way down and jumps back up.  The biting stops when I get up.

• A The next time your kitten gives you his wake-up nip, let out a blood curdling yell and shake all over.  A bit of his own tonic should banish his nip.

Cat On The Couch

• Q My two-year-old cat uses my couch as her resting place. It is very hot where I live, and she loses a lot of fur, which tends to get stuck on on the couch. It’s real embarrassing when friends come to visit. What should I do?
• A Why not cover your couch with a washable cover that you can remove when you have company.  You could also put a basket at one end of the couch and maybe she’ll adorn it.  Most cats hang out on the couch.  Brush her daily which will reduce her shedding fur all over your couch.  You should be able to compromise.

My Male Cat Howls

• Q My cat will not stop howling.  I have a male cat who is not neutered.  He has started howling all night—non stop.  He was an outside cat.  If we get him neutered, will his howling stop?  He is not in pain, because he doesn’t howl during the day.  I feel like I have a small child in the house.
• A Your cat is a tom cat and is acting like one.  Nocturnal howls are classic tom cat traits.  Yes, have him neutered and these traits or symptoms will disappear as his testosterone lowers— probably in three or four weeks.  Schedule an appointment with the vet.  It will be a win-win.
