Q.  I recently found homes for five kittens. The mother cat was a street cat. Two of the kittens were somewhat alike in catsonality and color, but the other three were so different. What do you make of it?
A.  It’s possible for more than one tom cat to sire a litter as a queen can ovulate a few times during heat. If she gets together with more than one tom, her kittens will reflect her multiple amours.

Q.  My senior cat Om has been crying a lot. It’s usually whenever I go to the kitchen. He cries even after I feed him. What’s wrong?
A.  Om is crying for a reason. He’s not simply a cry-baby. He probably has lost control of his signals. Once he starts crying, he becomes anxious and over-stimulated and can’t stop right away. There may be an underlying reason for his stressful cries. Make an appointment to have Om checked out. Be sure to get his heart thoroughly examined. Om is definitely trying to communicate he’s in trouble. A senior cat is no dummy!

Q.  I recently adopted a new cat for my cat Motor. Although Motor gets an incredible amount of attention, she gets upset whenever anyone touches the new cat. The new cat arrived ten days ago. What should I do?
A.  Motor’s behavior is not unreasonable. After all, she’s been your number one cat, and she wants to be sure her position isn’t compromised. Whenever you pay attention to the new cat or newcomer, mention Motor’s name so she feels included. The less attention you give the newcomer, the more inclined she’ll be to seek Motor out for attention.  Ten days is not a long time for Motor to be a possessive of attention. Relax, it will work out.

Q.  How would a vasectomy affect my male cat’s behavior? I thought it might be better than having him neutered.
A.  A vasectomy wouldn’t affect your cat’s behavior.  However, although he could no longer impregnate the ladies he would still possess all of the Tom cat characteristics. To name a few: feuds with other Tom cats, territorial and over-stimulated spraying,  potent urine, high stress level and vulnerability to becoming ill.  Discuss the topic with your vet for some more insight. I know you’ll make the best choice.
