Wait Till The Sun Shines Nellie

A feel-good song is the catalyst for Momma Cat Nellie’s display of wellness and pleasure with her kittens.

“Wait Till The Sun Shines Nellie” Is Catnip For Momma Cat
(Mother cat angst)

“I took in this Momma cat and her three new born kittens to foster, but I’m worried,” said Eve. Momma was a rescue from Eve’s brother’s veterinary hospital in Northport Maine. Eve went on to say that Momma had tinkled and pooped outside of the litter box. Something was wrong with Momma, and no way did Eve want Momma to be uncomfortable. She felt I could get to the bottom of it so Momma would feel better. “She doesn’t miss a wink or blink from her three kits,” said Eve,“and we want to do the same for her.”

New Digs for Momma and Kits
That evening when we did the phone session, Eve had moved Momma and kits to the bathroom where she set up an enclosure for their current digs. She felt that probably Momma was kitten-protective and worn out because she never ventured out of the enclosure. I told Eve that the bathroom was a good move as it was small and compact — a cat-friendly, safe spot.

Feel-Good Nellie Music
“Let’s call her Nellie,” said Eve, when I asked her to think of a name for Momma.
“That’s perfect. It’s soft sounding and sweet. As your phone is on speaker, we can both sing Wait Till The Sun Shines Nellie.”
When Eve seemed surprised, I told her that it was a happy song that would please Momma. Her kits would mirror her pleasure — a healing chain reaction. So we sang a few refrains and found a link on the net where Nellie’s namesake was crooned by a Barbershop Quartet. Now there could be continuous feel-good Nellie music.
I also recommended that even if Nellie’s stool had been tested to rule out any medical problems e.g. worms, it was time for a repeat.

Nellie Comes Out — Success!
The next morning there was a text from Eve: “Nellie is doing so much better. She came out of her enclosure and seems to be more at ease and less fragile. Her kits have started to play in the enclosure. And take a look at Nellie as she nurses her kits to her name inspired song.”
