20 Year Old Vibie

Senior cat mellows and thrills her family at age 20

Vibie has become a lap-sitter

20 Year Old Vibie Re-Invents Herself As A Lap Cat
(Geriatric Golden Years Kitty)
“Vibie is 20 and still re-inventing herself,” said Edie, one of my creative trainers at the Apple Store. She went on to tell me how when she recently flew home for a visit, her parents were Vibie-ecstatic.
“Watch this,” they said, as her mother sat down on the couch with a wooly blanket on her lap. Slow but steady, Vibie made her way towards the couch and scrambled on to the blanket. She had never been a lap cat, blanket or no blanket. This was such a gift for the family, especially for Edie.
“With Vibie on her blanket on my lap, I was couch-bound,” Edie said, “and I loved every minute of it.”

Blanket Is Vibie’s Security Magnet
“What a cool looking 20,” I said, as Vibie’s selfie flashed on Edie’s iPhone.
“And your take on Vibie’s behavior?”
I told Edie that as many a cat reaches the ‘very golden years’, what appears to be cat-centric or atypical behavior can be triggered by increased muscle relaxation and less unpleasant muscle and brain memory. Or simply, Vibie’s blanket is her comfort or security magnet, and comfort chips away at her fear of intimacy.
“Well, I’ll take it as a very mutual comfort,” Edie said with a grin.
“What a gift,” I said.

Vibie Continues To Re-Invent Herself
And Six Months Later .…. Vibie has become the wonder cat.  Once again, Edie, one of my creatives at the Apple Store, flashed Vibie’s selfie, but this time from her Apple Watch.
“My parents thought they were going to lose Vibie”, said Edie.”
While they were on a road trip in Canada, Vibie’s cat sitter texted them that Vibie was in renal failure and hospitalized. Three days later Vibie was released from the hospital and Edie’s parents made it home that same day. The vet felt Vibie no longer needed daily fluids — as long as she ate, and they could keep her well hydrated. So Vibie received palliative treatment. Whatever Vibie wanted, Vibie got!

Palliative Treatment — Hospice Cat
Edie’s parents cooked white fish and whatever else Vibie craved. There were scattered wee wee pads in case Vibie had to “let go” before she could reach her litter boxes. They were in close contact with the vet with any changes in Vibie’s condition.

Whatever Vibie wants — Vibie gets

“Vibie was there for most of my life,” said Edie. “I’m so grateful I got to spend quality Vibie time in January. Maybe I can arrange a quick flight home. In the meantime, there’s FaceTime.
