Finnegan Wakes Me up

Sleep deprivation triggered by a feline carpet scratcher.

Finnegan always ready to play

Finnegan Wakes Me Up!
(Sleep Deprivation, Nocturnal Angst, Carpet Scratcher)
“Finnegan loves the link of music you sent for him,” said Marge at the start of his FaceTime consult. “I played it for him last night, and he fell asleep to the music.”

Marge adopted Finnegan three months ago. Now at six months and neutered, he scratches on the bedroom carpet and wakes Marge up before the crack of dawn.
Marge went on to say that Finnegan fell asleep in her office last night. The music lulled him to sleep. He remained there until she invited him in to her bedroom this morning.
“For awhile he nestled next to me in bed, before he took his bod to the carpet,” said Marge. “So Carole, what do you think?”

Finnegan’s Program For Uninterrupted Sleep

  • I told Marge that his misbehavior might be a reaction to her bio rhythms which usually become more active as the dawn approaches.
  • Continue to let him spend the night in your office with the music, which should also play during the day.
  • Invite him in to sleep with you in the morning.
  • Before he acts out on the carpet, gently remove him from the bedroom, tell him he’s the best boy and close the door.
  • If you’re ready to start your day, you can join him.
  • Repeat this for at least twenty days before you begin to let him tuck in with you at bedtime.

“Sounds good,” said Marge. “You helped me with my dear, late cats about 25 years ago, so I know we’ve got it!”
“Let’s end Finnegan’s session with a Distant Reiki treatment for the two of you in Santa Cruz, and I’ll add your name to receive my free monthly blog.”
