Delaware Humane Association Programs …

Kitten campaign

One of DHA’s recent events to celebrate their feline adoptees was to dedicate a week to kitten season and many, many adoptions. There are many kittens and cats to foster and/or adopt. DHA also offers a spay and neuter program, a pet pantry that assists families in need and more.

President and Mrs, Biden’s dog, Major, was a former adoptee of the DHA. He was adopted to play with and inspire their senior dog Champ.

The Cats On My Block

You’ll want to take a look at the children’s book The Cats On My Block by Valerie Sicignano, a wonderful and thorough guide on how to care for community cats. 100% of the proceeds go to the Humane Society of New York.

This book recently won The Cat Writers’ Association Hartz Milk Replacement for Kittens award.  Valerie was one of the organizers of Animal Mukti, a benefit held in 1999 at the Jivamukti Yoga Center that created the first free spay/neuter in New York City.  Profits from the sale of the book go to the Animal Mukti Community Cat Spay/Neuter program at the Humane Society of New York which provides free spay/neuter for Community Cat Caretakers in NYC.

Valerie holds a Certificate in Humane Education from the ASPCA, is the Co-founder of Bideawee’s Feral Cat Initiative program, and the former East Coast Director of In Defense of Animals where she created and presented humane education campaigns and worked on behalf of marine mammals, big cats, companion animals, wild horses and primates.  Her work on behalf of animals has been recognized with awards including In Defense of Animals’ Humane Education Leadership and Animal Guardian awards, and The Manhattan Pet Gazette’s Companion Animal Guardian award.
