Frequently Asked Behavioral Questions
Q. I found a stray pregnant cat and had her aborted and spayed. Do you think this was all right? Will it affect her disposition?
A. You did the best thing for her. Maybe she would have been a good mother—but with the overpopulation and homelessness issues, you made the best decision. You did not damage her catsonality, and her sensuality will remain intact.
Q. Sometimes I think my cats do things for spite. What’s your take?
A. If they’re acting purely out of spite, you must be doing something that’s making them anxious or uncomfortable. Think about this for awhile. You’ll probably realize what it is you’re doing that’s frustrating them. However their problem could be medical, and their way of communicating it to you can only be done in a negative manner to attract your attention.
Q. Are male cats more affectionate than females?
A. There is no hard-and-fast generalization. It simply depends upon which sex you relate to better and on each individual cat.
Q. I allow my cats to sit on the table while I’m eating alone, but I would like to know how I can keep them off the table when I have company for dinner.
A. First of all, feed them their favorite food just before you sit down to dinner. Feed then something that takes awhile to eat. Next, sprinkle their scratching posts with catnip, and lead them over to the posts. Diversion, distraction, is your best answer, if a few sharp no’s doesn’t do it. If necessary lead them to another room in an enthusiastic
manner, with more catnip. If they have a favorite gel, wipe some on their paws. This will keep them occupied.
