My Cat Loves Everyone But Me …..
Battered Wife ….
I recently received the following text from a battered wife:
Our neutered cat Matty has a terrific relationship with our other cats and is fine with my husband. However, he attacks me.
The problem began about a year ago before my husband and I separated. After we split, the cat’s attacks became so frequent that my husband had to come get him. Three months ago my husband and I reunited. We’re fine, but I am again the victim of our cat’s aggression. Do you have any suggestions?
I told her that although she and her husband were happily reunited, evidently her cat was not. Something about the chemistry of their marital relationship upset their cat and she became the target of his tension. Because cats are sensitive to body language, tone of voice and unspoken
words, her situation was a loaded issue. My recommendation was to arrange for a family member or friend to care for her cat for a few months. Perhaps he will return home minus his aggression fetish.
Peanut’s Security Chair
Peanuts gives me the cold shoulder when my friend is in his fave chair.
Another recent text:
My cat, Peanuts is 15 years old and dearly loves to be cuddled and stroked. I love alone so I’m the sole source of her attention. She’s not usually very sociable with company. When I sit on my chaise recliner, Peanuts is usually on my lap or by my feet. We share this time together.
I have a close friend who resembles me. She is also a cat lover, and when she sits on my recliner, Peanuts runs to sit on her lap. If I try to pick her up, she acts as though I’m a stranger. What is it with her attachment to the chair?
I explained that Peanuts clearly associates this chair with affection and relaxation. Because her friend resembles her, Peanuts takes advantage of the lap that graces the recliner. It’s her fave security object, and she doesn’t want to be disturbed when she’s parked there. I told her that when she’s removed from her friend’s lap, Peanuts thinks her down time is interrupted.
I suggested that she ask another friend to sit on the recliner in a relaxed position and see if Peanuts deigns to occupy this friend’s lap. Meanwhile she should be grateful that Peanuts appreciates and seconds her choice of chairs.
