Cat Behavior Questions
*Your cat’s name is very significant * Why your cat is a sucker and kneader
*Not every female cat wants to mother kittens

Q. Do you think a cat is affected by his name?
A.  Yes, because certain names are associated with different bodily and emotional feelings.  For instance if you named your cat “Ugly,” you would say it in a distasteful and unpleasing way because of the word’s connotation. Whenever you called him or spoke to your cat you would be giving off negative feelings. Cats are very in tune to feelings so your cat would pick up your negativity. It’s much easier to give your cat a name to which you have a good association and that fits your cat’s catsonality.

Q. Why does my male cat adore kneading away at my chest and sucking on my sweater?
A.  Happiness may be the key. It’s a response carried over from when he was nursing. Most kittens knead and nurse. Consider yourself lucky that he associates chest kneading with the happiness and gratification he received when nursing. You could trim your cat’s nails so you don’t get punctured. Provide a woolen object for him to suck on — only make sure he doesn’t devour it.

Q. I found a stray pregnant cat and had her aborted and spayed. Do you think this was all right? Will it affect her disposition?
A.  You did the best thing for her. She may have been a good mother — but who knows?  You did not damage her disposition, and her sensuality will remain intact. Also, you reduced the staggering number of homeless cats.
Thank you.
