06 Mar Brownie’s Demise Caused By Renal Failure
Brownie’s Transition
(The End, Renal Failure) …..
“Carole, I don’t know what to do with my Brownie,” said Jane. “Should I make arrangements for his transition? He’s in kidney failure, has lost most of his sight and is almost deaf.” She went on to say that she didn’t want to lose him. He still purred and seemed to be aware. But his relationship with Teddy, his seventeen-year-old brother was not as amicable. Teddy was also in renal failure but not as weak as Brownie.
When I asked if Brownie was still affectionate, Jane told me that he still wanted to be petted and made it to her bed at bedtime. She had made a ramp to her bed so he didn’t have to jump to get there.
Jane called me the next day to say that Brownie was very distant. He and Teddy hardly spent any time together.
We agreed that it was time for Brownie to make his transition. Jane would contact the vet to make a home visit, and he would assist Brownie in his transition. Today she would share with Brownie all of his fave things, and I told Jane that Brownie would soon be at peace, no more discomfort. I also reminded Jane to do some good stuff for herself which would benefit both Brownie and Teddy.
