My Neutered Cat Still Sprays
- Q My male cat was neutered over two years ago but has started to spray again. He has also been caught with one of my female cats who isn’t spayed. Is this normal? I didn’t think it was possible for a male cat to spray and “do it” after being neutered.
- A A neutered male cat can still spray if excited, aroused or anxious. An un-spayed cat can often trigger such a reaction. Some neutered cats are more sensitive than others. Your male is a classic example. Schedule an appointment to have your female checked out and spayed. You don’t want your male to be a target for cystitis.

My Kitten Is Not Meowing
- Q Why is my six months old kitten not meowing?
- A Not every kitten or cat is vocal. One day she may start talking. She’s saving her voice for the right moment — or she may be an example of the “silent meow”. A companion cat may inspire her to vocalize.

I Rescued A Male Kitten From The Street
- Q I recently took in a young male kitten from the street. He is very shy but has made some overtures towards me. Do you have any suggestions on how to make him feel at home with me?
- A It’s best that he seeks you out. Until he’s more secure, let him be the aggressor. When he wants contact, stroke him gently ever so slowly. If he climbs into your lap, relax and don’t hang on to him. He must feel that he’s free to move around at will. After you’ve reinforced this type of interaction, he’ll begin to feel more comfortable and reassured. It will take time, but most good things do. Good luck with your new kitten.
