Hello Kitty
Recognizing this iconic Japanese kitty whose first full length film for the big screen had a 2019 release in the USA. She is also known by her real name Kitty White.
She was created in Japan in 1974 and her first appearance on an item was in 1975 on a vinyl coin purse sold in Japan. By 2014, when Hello Kitty was 40 years old, she was worth about US$8 billion a year. The New York Times called her a “global marketing phenomenon.”
She first appeared in the United States in 1976. UNICEF appointed Hello Kitty children’s ambassador and the Japanese government appointed her ambassador of tourism.

Law Requires Pet Shops To Sell Only Cat, Dog And Rabbit Rescues
This law went into effect in California in January 2019 and will now be in place in New York in December 2024. The New York law is titled the Puppy Mill Pipeline bill.
And in another California Law, no longer are animal companions regarded as property in divorce cases. Finally, not property! Can we expect to see this law in all states?
“You can’t own a cat or any animal has been my ‘forever’ stand and signature. They’re family. They have emotions.” As a former columnist for In Defense of Animals (IDA) — their concept of guardianship, never ownership was the catalyst to our partnership.
I am proud to be included in their powerful Guardian Quotes. Please scroll to the end of the IDA list.
