Cat Behavior Questions
* A Cat’s Feelings    * When A Cat Is Sick      *Cats And Catnip

Q. Does a cat have feelings?
A.  Yes, absolutely. Most of a cat’s behavior is based on feelings, and often a cat’s sensitivity is more highly developed than a person’s.

Q. Can I tell that my male cat is getting sick by the way he behaves?
A.  Yes, if his litter-box habits suddenly become erratic, if he vomits frequently, loses his appetite for a few meals, refuses contact and hides out.
Another thing to be aware of is breathing. If it’s apparent that your cat is having difficulty breathing for any length of time, and you can’t attribute it to any isolated stress situation that you can control, a vet visit is in order.
Your cat’s eyes are also a good indicator of how he’s feeling. Unless he has an eye problem, if you notice a look of distress that continues, chances are your cat is not well, or he’s about to come down with something.

Q. Do you recommend giving cats catnip?
A.  Yes, generally it makes them feel good, puts them in their comfort zone. At first they may become very active. Soon they’ll relax and feel good after working out their energy. Occasionally, it causes a cat to become too excited because of the energy overload. Also there are some cats who don’t have the catnip gene. And there are all kinds of catnip. Catnip Garden is a winner.
